Belize declared that it was suspending diplomatic ties with Israel in response to the ongoing violence in the region and called on both Israel and Hamas to agree to an “immediate ceasefire.” Belize also pledged to continue working with the international community “to bring full human rights, dignity, and security to Palestinians and Israelis.” The Central American country, a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), made the announcement in a statement released on Monday. Belize’s statement said the country’s position on the conflict “echoes the calls of the OIC, the United Nations and the overwhelming majority of United Nations Member States who have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and peaceful resolution of the situation in Palestine.”
