By Colin Reed, the CEO of a pro-Ron DeSantis super PAC, resigned today amid rising tensions between the PAC and DeSantis’ campaign.
Reed’s resignation came shortly after DeSantis’ campaign accused the PAC of “reckless and irresponsible” spending on television and radio ads in Florida. The ads reportedly cost the PAC $9.2 million.
The DeSantis campaign also criticized the PAC for running ads that did not represent the candidate’s beliefs.
In a statement, Reed said he had “personally decided to no longer remain in this role” and did not provide further details.
The PAC was founded in 2018 to boost DeSantis’ gubernatorial bid in Florida. It was funded by more than $35 million in donations, and it has been a major force in the race for the state’s open governor’s seat.
The resignation comes at a key moment in the governor’s race, with the Republican governor facing off against Democrat Andrew Gillum in the Nov. 6 election.
