Army officer alleges reprisal for his account of Capitol riot response

In May 2021, Army Lieutenant Colonel Paul M. Davies filed a lawsuit alleging that he was removed from his position as much of the commander at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, in retaliation for making public comments about security failures he had observed on the day of the 2021 storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. In the lawsuit, Davies asserted that he was removed from his post as a result of comments he made to the Washington Post about the inadequate security response to the attacks. He further alleged that he was demoted from the rank of colonel even though other officers were not reprimanded for their roles in the security response. Davies is seeking backpay and compensatory damages for the damage to his reputation caused by the alleged retaliation.
